The Meander Dam will provide an exciting new fishery for Tasmanian anglers.
The key features of the impoundment created by the completion of the Meander Dam will be its close proximity to population
centres and other popular waters including Four Springs and Brushy Lagoon. It will also be a viable alternative to the Central
Highlands particularly early and late in the season when its sheltered location and lower elevation will be attractive to anglers.
Other features of the fishery that have been discussed as part of the development of a recreation plan for the Dam and are yet to
be finalised are access, fishery management and boating.
Options discussed include the management of the water as a wild brown
trout fishery due to IFS assessments of existing wild trout populations and natural
recruitment, boating regulations consistent with the prevailing lake conditions and the provision
of two access points and launching facilities for anglers and general recreational use.
