Forest Practices Plans

The Meander Dam will inundate an area of forest communities identified as having environmental value. The removal of vegetation is not only necessary to undertake the dam works, it is also required to minimise the potential of flooded vegetation decomposing and creating oxygen demand, which is likely to cause decreases in dissolved oxygen concentrations, especially in the deeper waters near the dam wall.

The Rivers and Water Supply Commission, in consultation with the Forest Practices Authority is developing a package of mitigation measures that will ensure there will be no net loss of environmental values of these communities within the Bioregion.
